Bayer MaterialScience opens Regional Centre for Asia/Pacific in Hong Kong
Leverkusen/Hong Kong. At the beginning of 2006, Bayer MaterialScience AG decided to concentrate the management functions of the Business and Service Units for Asia/Pacific and of the Regional Service Centre for the area into Bayer MaterialScience Ltd in Hong Kong. The resultant improvement in communication and cooperation between the various functional segments should bring about a sustained increase in efficiency in the region.
Opened on Wednesday (22 February)
The new Regional Centre in Hong Kong was officially opened on Wednesday (22 February). The head of the Centre, Dr. Frank Rövekamp, explained that key factors in choosing this location were its proximity to all the Asian markets and the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the city. He said, “Our Asian customers’ businesses are growing not only in their own local markets, but increasingly in other Asian countries too. This trend calls for setting up efficient management structures and controls, which is exactly what we have created in the form of Bayer MaterialScience Ltd.”
The guests at the opening ceremony included Joseph Wong, secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology , Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; the German Consul, General Frank Burbach; and two members of the Board of Management of Bayer MaterialScience AG, Prof. Gottfried Plumpe (Administration) and Ian Paterson (Marketing and Innovation). Paterson stressed the economic importance of the Asia/Pacific region for the company’s business operations, “We anticipate continued good growth opportunities here in the future. The new Regional Centre in Hong Kong will help us to exploit these.”
